About Me:

Hello, my name is Hung Su. I’m a graduate student in department of Civil Engineering. You may wonder what I’m researching as a PhD student. I’m actually conducting researches on the damage mechanisms of material under mechanical loading. I know that sounds a little bit professional to you. OK, I will give you an example. We all know a paper clip will break if you bend it back and forth for several times. This is the so-called fatigue phenomenon which can happen to many other things like an axle, a plane wing and stuff. We can guess the clip fatigues because something changes inside it in microscale or even in nanoscale and we call it damage. So, my job is to understand how the damage comes into being and how it develops leading to the failure of materials. That’s all.
