About Me:
Back in 1954, my sister gave me a nickname that struck....Geggsegupa. I grew up Catholic, went to church and school till I was 23. From 5 to 23 I learned to work at my folks A & W Restaurant. My job was sweeping the blacktop of sand and cigarette butts. This explains why I never have smoked, I guess. Once @ age 7, a punk flipped a burning butt at me out of his car's window and hit me in the chest while I was sweeping. I picked it up and walked over to his car window and flicked it into his car, hitting him in the face and landing on his lap.
I was and have always been a strong, man of principal but boy this time I ran. He never caught me.
I was quit the athlete, playing and winning State HS Championship 1970, which got me a full ride to college. Played 4 years in College and was invited to the US Olympic Tryouts in 1972, which I missed by 2 slots out of 500. So close...
When I was 5, in addition to working at the A & W, I cut grass, raked leaves and shoveled and blew snow with huge snow double auger Toro Blower. I went to the store with my Mom to buy
3 rakes and 3 shovels.. It was the beginning of my crews. I walked onto job sites and asked if the men working needed a "what my mom called a Gopher". I worked construction jobs until I graduated from HS 1970. While in college, I contacted and employed several guys to build, remodel and even clean out attics and basements....anything for a buck. I doing so I learned many many things.
While in college, I got married and upon graduating, my wife & I both got teaching jobs. When school was over @ 3:00, I went to work on 3 to 4 jobs at a time. After two years of teaching, construction & 3 kids, both wife & I quit teaching. She stayed home to raise our three kids and I went full time designing & construction, replacing both of our teaching salaries. From 1976 to 2010, 34 years at 80 to 120 hours, seven months a year. a week was my life & career. I provided for my family everything and more then the average guy. However, I was always working, if not on the job, at home in the office.
Today, I lost wife to divorce and all three kids to "dad, you were never home." ....So, angry kids would say, "how does it feel, when I say, I am to busy to see you."
So, in 2010, I gave my business & tools to my 8 best men at no charge, a tear and a hand shake.
@ 58 years old, 2010, after my dad died< I moved in with my mom who had a stroke and took care of her till she died 2012.
So, for 60 years, I lived and worked within 30 miles of where I was born. I sold the home my dad built in 1946 after WWII. After two years of being caretaker of mom's stuff and fixing up the ill-maintained home I sold everything. I started a new life, finding a NEW friend on E-HARMONY, Cindy. I bought a beautiful motorhome, a Gulfstream Atrium 42 footer, and after one trip to Florida, Cindy sold her house and we set out as FULL-TIMERS to see America. We traveled 10 YEARS, over 80,000 miles, seeing everything in 38 states. And when bored with all this traveling, adventure and exploration around America, we took to the WORLD with cruises and trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, London, Paris, Prague, Rome, Florence, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Singapore, Bangkok, Saigon, Beijing and more.
In May of last year 2014, Cindy had a heart attack and died. With her went my desire and energy to travel. However, after 10 months of mourning and recovery, I am ready to dream again, to start again and to move on. I am hoping to meet and make some new friends here in Pahrump.
Thanks
